The shim strip protects the blade and cuts off the "backing paper". Practice has found that after the newly installed blades and shim pads, the quality of the paper cut by the first knife is not necessarily good, and the edge of the backing paper may not be smooth, or even cut continuously. This shows that not only the flatness of the shim is required, but also a moderate scoring depth of no more than 0.5mm. The edge of the cut paper is straight and neat. Because the blade and the shim strip cannot be absolutely straight, in order to ensure a uniform cutting of the backing paper, a sliver of paper is often properly placed on the back of the shim to achieve the desired "cut" effect.

1. Normally, good lubrication and maintenance should be performed on important parts of the machine such as the guide rail, the screw and the linkage paper presser, and maintenance should be performed in a timely manner to ensure the cutting accuracy of the machine;
2. Correct the machine to ensure that the paper is cut at a right angle. The pusher must not only be 90 ° to the platform, but also keep parallel to the cutter. After rough grinding with a blunt blade by an electric sharpener, "whetstone" and fine-grained abrasive cloth should also be used for fine grinding to eliminate edge burrs. When cutting, it is better to cut dozens of knives with soft paper such as waste paperboard and offset paper, run in the blade edge, eliminate the burr on the edge of the blade, and prevent the problem of chipping of the hard paper directly.
